Nominate your Hand Hygiene Champion of 2012

Hand hygiene is still the single most important measure to prevent nosocomial infections. The importance of this single procedure cannot be over emphasised or under estimated. 

In recognition of the hand hygiene initiatives being undertaken by infection prevention and control teams, schülke has introduced the Hand Hygiene Champion award.

The winner of 2011 was Dr. Stephen Fowlie, Medical Director/Director of Infection prevention and Control, Nottingham University NHS Trust. Dr. Fowlie was nominated by Natalie Vaughan, Clinical Lead Infection Prevention and Control, who described Dr. Fowlie as ‘one in a million’ who ‘leaves no stone unturned to promote good practice throughout the organisation’ and has achieved ‘a significant improvement in hand hygiene amongst medical staff’.

Julie Storr (Vice-President of the IPS, Project Director of the NPSA’s highly successful cleanyourhands campaign and a member of the judging panel) presented Dr. Fowlie with his award in September at the Infection Prevention Society Conference 2011. 

The search for the Hand Hygiene Champion of 2012 has now begun. It couldn’t be simpler to enter, just nominate your Champion and tell us in around 250 words why that person deserves to win. It doesn’t matter how simple the initiative is, if it’s helped to improve hand hygiene, we want to hear from you.

The winner and two runners up will receive a unique engraved crystal trophy, certificate, flowers, photographs and publicity in a number of professional publications. The awards will be presented at Infection prevention 2012 which is taking place at the ACC, Liverpool from 1st-3rd October.
