Swine flu, or influenza A(H1N1), has arrived in the UK with 28 confirmed cases and a further 333 cases under investigation. As this is a new virus, no-one has immunity to it and an infection prevention product vaccine has not yet been developed. The Department of Health has recommended a number of hygiene measures which include the advice to: “Wash your hands with soap and hot water or a sanitiser gel often.” This advice is equally applicable to healthcare professionals as it is to the general public.
