New gigasept® Once - simplifiying endoscope decontamination

11/02/2009
schülke has just announced the launch of gigasept® Once - a single use disinfectant for flexible endoscopes, which has been designed to suit a wide range of Automated Endoscope Reprocessors. gigasept® Once has exellent material compatibility, is a 750ppm peracetic acid with a five minute disinfectant contact time (including Tb, spores and viruses).
According to Nicola Furniss, gigasept® Once Product Manager: "Until recently, the decontamination of endoscopes was performed by Automated Reprocessing Machines which varied greatly in cleaning efficiency, with widely varying volumes of disinfectant being used and a plethora of products needed to meet the unique requirements of each machine. Now, with a new generation of highly efficient endoscope reprocessing machines becoming increasingly available, fewer but more efficient disinfectants are required. gigasept® Once is designed to suit a wide range of Automated Endoscope Reprocessors (including Labcaire & Partners For Endoscopy) making the choice of product simple and easy, particularly as it is available through the NHS Supply Chain in both England and Wales."
It's Not All About The Capital Equipment
Automated Endoscope Reprocessor machines (including Labcaire's ISIS) have recently been added to the NHS Supply Chain National Framework Agreement.
According to Simon Kear, Labcaire's Marketing Manager "NHS organisations are now able to follow a more streamlined approach to procure such medical devices through the NFA, freeing them up from a potentially lengthy OJEC process, knowing the products offered have already satisfied the necessary technical and legislative compliance issues". However, when buying a new expensive AER, there are other factors involved. The decontamination of endoscopes is a process involving 3 factors: AER, endoscope and chemistry.
Nicola Furniss points out that compatibility between the 3 factors is essential and must be compliant with latest regulations such as HTM 2030, BS EN ISO 15883 and BSG. schülke provides a range of chemistries compatible with the majority of quality AER and andoscope manufacturers.
