New 5 day baby wash protocol

08/05/2009
Very occasionally, some babies need to undergo a 5 day antimicrobial wash procedure. This could be for decolonisation prior to surgery, to support infection prophylaxis in isolation and intensive care units or to help reduce secondary infections.
Adult 5 day antimicrobial wash protocols are not suitable for babies, so in response to requests from midwives and other healthcare professionals, schülke has just introduced a new octenisan® 5 day baby wash protocol. Written in conjunction with Mary Doyle and Sarah Cullinane of the Mid-western Regional Maternity Hospital, Limerick, Ireland, the protocol gives a step-by-step procedure for the use of octenisan® Wash on a baby, including a series of visual diagrams.
The protocol is available free of charge to healthcare professionals by calling Schulke Technical Department on 0114 254 3500, contacting your local Schulke representative or emailing: mail.uk@schuelke.com
octenisan® antimicrobial hair and body wash has a unique formulation with added emollients and is effective against a broad range of microorganisms but is gentle on the skin. The antimicrobial efficacy of octensian® comes from the unique active ingredient octenidine. In tests, octenidine has been shown to have a broad antimicrobial effect, including multi-resistant strains. It can be used for decolonisation prior to surgery, to support infection prophylaxis in isolation and intensive care units and to help reduce secondary infections.
octensian® is available in 150ml and 500ml pack sizes and can be purchased from pharmacies or prescribed on FP10.
