Relying on experience.
For over 120 years our business philosophy has had an unwavering focus: hygiene & special preservation. Founded in 1889 by Rudolf schülke and Julius Mayr, Schülke & Mayr GmbH belongs to pioneers of modern hospital hygiene and preservation.
In 1892 the first branded disinfectant lysol® played a significant role in fighting the cholera epidemic in Hamburg.
This was followed in 1913 by sagrotan®, the first branded household disinfectant.
What began with protecting the public from dangerous microorganisms was carried over to the protection of industrially manufactured products in 1924 with the introduction of grotan®, the first branded preservative worldwide.
1990 saw the company introduce the first mucous & wound disinfectant called octenisept®, based on our innovative active Octenidine.
Since 1996 Schülke & Mayr GmbH has been a member of the Air Liquide Group - the global leader in technical and medical gases.

With our head quarters based in Norderstedt, Northern Germany, schülke is internationally active in more than 70 countries, represented by our own subsidiaries and distribution partners. There are more than 540 employees in the company group of which 360 are employed in Norderstedt in the areas of production, administration, R&D and marketing and sales.
Central to the ongoing success of our company is the dedication, motivation and professionalism of our employees. Indeed recognition of schülke's corporate culture has resulted in it being identified as one of the 100 Best Employers in Germany in the 2008 competition "Great place to Work".

We are aware of our social responsibility in our regions. Our Norderstedt site is certified according to GMP, ISO 9001, ISO 13485 and ISO 14001 to always ensure a safe process

Based on a total quality concept which not only concerns with the quality of our products in the sense of effective product formulas, we support our customers with a comprehensive concept of Microbiological Quality Management (MQM).
This includes lab services, application advice, hygiene audits and training programmes for our customers' employees.
